about

This song was written to be sung as a DUET. The final Spark Live version features Noa Goldsmith, who was 13 at the time. Red Flags brought out the wisdom of the elder in me, wanting to connect to a younger person about some of the scary parts of the world and how to watch out for them. I recorded the demo on a piano to change things up a bit.

lyrics

Oh little girl
You got a way to go a way to go a way to go
And on your way you’ll see there’s no one way to way to go
Promise me you’ll right and left and turn and walk away when you think you should
Cause out there - there’s things I’d wash away if I could

(Noa ) Oh I have seen
More than I think you’d ever want to know that I’ve seen
Some times I feel I’ve been places that I’ve never been
I promise you I know things aren’t always black and white
I already know that when things feel wrong something isn’t right

Red flags aren’t always red
Sometimes they might be whispers deep inside your head
Warnings don’t always sound alarms
Sometimes you hear them loudest in someone else’s arms
Truth is no one gets a good sleep
With out a prayer for your soul to keep

Oh little girl oh little girl
Around every corner there are mysteries
May you discover
all the magic with out any of the miseries
I’ll discover all the mysteries
And only you know
the ins and outs of your own heart
My own heart
Keep it strong may any breaks give you wisdom for a brand new start
I am strong
